Imagine that you’re hosting a party, and you have invited some of your closest friends. The centerpiece of the party is a round, delicious cake. You need clarification when it comes time to serve and cut the cake. We agree that it is challenging to cut equal-sized slices without making a mess. There are many ways to cut a cake in a circular shape, but a viral hack we recently saw seems effective. A video on Instagram showed a cake-cutting trick that helps you serve neatly cut slices.

Philly, the cake lady and owner of a Bakery chain, shared this video. As many of us have done, here is a simple way to cut round birthday cakes without destroying them. “I hope this helps,” was the caption to her post. Philly can be seen in the video cutting a white cream buttercream frosting cake into two halves right from the middle. She then cuts thin, neat slices from half the cake without smudging any cream.

The video is currently viewed over 4.3 million times on Instagram. The Internet, however, isn’t impressed by the hack. Some people said they would be “disappointed and annoyed” if someone served them thin pieces of cake. Others complained that the cake wasn’t cut to proportion.

“Don’t invite me to your party if they are so thin,” said a user. One user commented: “I’d be so frustrated with this little bitty cake!” Another said, “I’d be so annoyed with a little piece!

One person stated that this technique did not ensure “even distribution” of icing.

One user even suggested a different way to cut round cakes. “Nope! You can get more cake by cutting a circle about 3 inches wide in the middle.
